Where do you work?
Why did you decide to go into the PR/Communications field?
Like some folks who end up in public relations, I was a journalism major in college. I loved to write (and I still do), but after a number of journalism internships, I realized traditional journalism wasn’t really the direction I wanted to follow. Fortunately, I had a couple of journalism professors who spent time in the PR world and who were kind enough to introduce me to the profession. It was through my relationships with these professors and the courses they taught that allowed me to create the career path I ultimately followed.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
That it’s okay to say, “I don’t know.” But only if you follow it up with, “But I can find out.”
What is your favorite activity outside of work?
I love causing trouble with my three boys (well, my youngest isn’t old enough to cause trouble quite yet, but his older brothers are picking up the slack for him until then). Outside of family time, I have a great passion for building things and doing home improvement projects. If I ever chose to leave the communications world, that would be my next career path.
If money was no object and you didn’t have to work, what would you be doing?
