Chapter History

The PRSSA chapter at Roger Williams University was founded in the spring, 2004. The chapter is among the fastest growing and most dynamic student organizations on campus. With nearly 30 members, the chapter continues to vigorously recruit among students in the quickly expanding public relations program at the university. The goals of the chapter are:

To support academic development of students in practicing both the art and science of public relations

To enhance member success in seeking employment in the public relations industry once they graduate from the program

To build and grow a robust chapter that provides a nurturing environment for public relations students

PRSSA History

In 1968, 20 years after its own establishment, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) founded the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The declared purpose of PRSSA is to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners.

The student society aims to foster the following:

Understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession
Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles
Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude
Appreciation of Associate Membership in PRSA and eventually accredited membership

Today. PRSSA has more than 7,000 members in 227 chapters on college campuses across the country.
